Begin by removing your car’s wheel, using a tire iron to loosen the lug nuts and a jack stand or hydraulic jack to lift the car. Through the spaces in the vehicle’s wheel, take a look at your brake pads. You’ll find the outside pad pressed against a metal rotor. This pad should be at least ¼ inches thick.
Inspect the brake disk and rotor for any grooves or dents. Minor grooves called scoring are common and aren’t an issue. Large grooves, rust, cracks, or uneven wear are indicators your pad needs replacing. Lastly, check the brake lines for any leaks; the fluid can be anywhere from clear to amber in colour and has a noticeable smell.
Place the wheel back on and tighten the lug nuts securely. Once done, repeat the process on all other wheels of your car.
